It's pretty messy to look at right now, but it's going together steadily. I'm constantly trying to come up with new ways to get what I'm looking for, like the round tower, made with generous use of click-hinges.
Thanks for all the comments! I've got a lot more to do, and work has been really busy lately. I hope to at least get the castle and island done. I do want a whole landscape underneath, but it may be a rush job to get it ready for Brickcon.
I have updated with some additional pictures. I haven't had as much time as I wanted to gain progress on this, due to work, but things are slowing down on that side, so I may be able to get time to work on this. I just have to get over another issue (sore knees, needing to rest them) and somehow get the rest of this giant thing figured out. The main display is huge! Don't know if I'll finish all of the landscape or not, but I'll shoot for it.
Holy schnikes, that frame is massive! Will those four legs be supporting the weight of the finished build?
Yes, they're quite thick and should be able to take the weight. I just need to brace the bottom of the posts so they don't bend. I almost don't have enough room to get all the feet mounted onto baseplates, not sure how I'm going to get it all set up. Somehow...
I am running into some major stability problems now that it's mostly set up. it almost toppled over on me as I was setting up the castle on top of the island. After working and working it, I decided I needed to cheat a little, and now there's a small stool in the back to hold the brunt of the weight. It's black, so it should blend in with the background/tablecloth.
Also, disappointingly, I'm not going to have time to do much else than get the island itself looking good. I wanted to do a big landscape in the style of the one I took to ECCC, but I'm low on time, low on parts, and won't be able to get it in a good enough place. Oh well, I tried. I'll post pics when I get it mostly together.
I'm sorry you are coming up short of what you wanted to do (I'm glad it didn't topple over!) but it is incredible! I can't believe how quickly you got the castle and island together.
Thanks for the encouragement! Here's hoping it'll be ready.
Added a couple more pictures, the edges of the rock and the grassy top are mostly cleaned up. Now to focus on getting the rest of it all fleshed out. I have buildings that form the village, the towers on the castle need finished, and the very top of the castle itself needs a kick-ass spire or something. I haven't figured out what.
And I just realized, the top of this will be eye level to the average adult, when mounted on a typical folding table. With the castle on there, it's going to be taaall!
