My first build of 2018 and my first freebuild for January.
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-Stone's Throw Gatehouse-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- A gatehouse overlooking the streets of Stone's Throw, a small village south of the walled city of Orevale. Like most Garhims, the citizens of Orevale make a living off of the sea, but many have also taken advantage of the fertile soil of the valley and began a life of woodworking, farming, and raising livestock. -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- Comments and criticism are welcome and appreciated! Greetings, fellow Garhims! Here's my second freebuild for January
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-Orevale Town Market-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- The streets of Orevale are often lined with market stalls, merchants hawking their wares to the people of the mountain town. Farmers sold fresh fruits and vegetables: the results of good-tilled earth from here in Garheim or imported from Grimfell or the southern factions. Blacksmiths and farriers sold blades and shoed horses while fishermen cried the catch of the day. Snow blanketed the ground, but the sun shone brightly on this winter's day and mirth and merriment was on everyone's faces as Valdr led his horse between cottages and watch towers, greeting the people of the city and taking in the sights with each step. His trip to the Garhim settlement of Andarheim on the isle of Grimfell had been eventful, but the son of Torvald Njordson was glad to be back home in mother Garheim. -+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+- Comments and criticism are welcome and appreciated! As January has ended and February begins, it is time for the 1st ever Sledding Tournament. Garheim will be celebrating this great new year with a chance for some friendly winter competition!
Challenge: Create a MOC showing either one of your characters or any other character that you would like preparing for or participating in the Sledding Tournament. The sled can be animal-powered or gravity-powered – your choice. There are two possible categories of entries that you can have:
Create an 8x8 Vignette (minimal overhang allowed) preparing for or participating in the Sledding Tournament. This entry will be worth 2 points.
Create an Regular entry (anywhere from 16x16 – 32x32 with minimal overhang allowed) preparing for or participating in the Sledding Tournament. This entry will be worth 3 points (4 points if the entry is one of your two main characters).
Create a short back-story and determine the stats for your sled (more on that below) for each build and post a picture to the Garheim thread.
Here are the rules on how to build your sleds:
Each sled has a speed and acceleration rating. The speed determines the top speed for the sled and the acceleration determines how much speed you can add in a single turn. The total of your speed + acceleration must equal 12. Hint: Having an acceleration higher than your speed will likely result in a losing sled design.
Speed – This is the maximum speed you can hope to get to in the race.
Acceleration – This is the amount you can add to your current speed each round until you get to your max speed.
In addition, your sled will have three other characteristics: Toughness, Maneuverability and Jumping. These three characteristics much each be valued between 1-10 with the total of the three equal to 12.
Toughness – This dictates how well your sled can ram through obstacles on the course. If you succeed against an obstacle, you will be allowed to maintain your current speed through the obstacle, but if you fail against the obstacle then you have crashed and must start your speed back from zero. Toughness vs. Obstacles – All of the Obstacles have a rating from 4-11. There are 6 obstacles on the course and each time you put your toughness rating (plus a random number from 1-8) against the obstacle. If you can tie or exceed the obstacle rating you can maintain your current speed. Otherwise your speed is reset to zero.
Maneuverability – This controls how well your sled can handle the cuts and forks in the course. If you succeed against a cut or fork you will be allowed to accelerate through the fork, but if you fail against the cut or fork then you cannot accelerate that turn. Maneuverability vs.Forks – All of the Cuts and Forks have a rating from 4-11. There are 6 cuts/forks on the course and each time you put your maneuverability rating (plus a random number from 1-8) against the cut/fork. If you can tie or exceed the cut/cork rating you can maintain your current speed (+ add your acceleration up to your max speed). Otherwise your speed maintained for that round.
Jumping – This is how well your sled can handle the jumps on the course. If you succeed against a jump you will be allowed to maintain your current speed through the jump, but if you fail against the obstacle then you have crashed and must start your speed back from zero. Jumping vs. Jumps – All of the Jumps have a rating from 4-11. There are 6 jumps on the course and each time you put your jumping rating (plus a random number from 1-8) against the jump. If you can tie or exceed the jump rating you can maintain your current speed. Otherwise your speed is reset to zero.
Reward: 2 points for having Vignette entry, 3 points for the Regular entry that does not use your character, and 4 points for a Regular entry that does use your character 2 point bonus for winning the race (shortest time), along with the esteemed title of "Champion of the Hill"! Two entries are allowed (one per size category) but both must have different sleds, characters, and stats! (The host can enter, but cannot win the Champion of the Hill)
Deadline: All entries must be final by Sunday, March 11th (9 PM Pacific Time Zone)
All of the randomness, calculation of time, etc will be handled by the host.
Please feel free your post any questions.
Thank you AK_Brickster for starting the idea and creating the first version of this contest and to Jayden & Moira for his help and encouragement during the development

Well, this is really irritating; my SD card is broken and I can't upload any pictures of my entry Hopefully I'll have a new one before the deadline, but with too many other things to mention requiring my money, I might decide against buying one just yet.
